Tennesseans for Student Success, together with Tristar Reads, invited Tennessee’s students to celebrate their summer reading success. By logging their cumulative summer reading hours at TristarReads.com, students were eligible to win one of three $1,000 college scholarships.
“Summer reading has been a focus of state and community leaders as well as education advocacy groups,” says Adam Lister, President and CEO of Tennesseans for Student Success. “We launched Tristar Reads last year to help encourage Tennessee’s kids to keep reading and to invite students to spend a few minutes every day reading a book. There’s great value in reading twenty minutes a day throughout the year and teachers share with us the need for reading to continue over the summer.”
Adam added, “By hosting reading times online, holding family giveaways and highlighting local authors, Tristar Reads has kept reading at the top of the to-do list for Tennessee’s kids this summer. We enjoyed showcasing Tennessee’s outstanding educators, like Sumner County’s own Katie Venable, and encouraging students to find themselves in an adventure. As this summer’s reading program comes to an end, we know students, teachers, or parents will continue encouraging literacy across the state.”
The scholarship contest takes place each summer from May through September. For more information, visit TristarReads.com.
