The School of Fine Arts

School is back in session, and ‘tis the season for extracurricular activities! The School of Fine Arts (SoFA) at First Baptist Church Hendersonville (FBCH), is the perfect place to round out your child’s arts education.

Did you know? September 10th – 17th is National Arts in Education Week, a resolution passed by Congress in 2010 to recognize the transformative power of arts in education, whether it is in the home, school, or community? The School of Fine Arts at FBCH is committed to continuing to provide access to arts in education in a safe, secure environment.

Whether you are a beginning student or have a few years of experience, FBCH SoFA have private music lessons to fit your needs. They offer thirty-minute weekly lessons with experienced, qualified instructors. Music lessons are offered in voice, piano, orchestra stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello), guitar, banjo, mandolin, flute and drum set. Private instruction is available Monday through Thursday, and recitals and showcases are scheduled one to two times a year. Registration is ongoing throughout the year and is for all ages.

Maybe private ongoing instruction does not suit your needs, and you would rather take a class. FBCH SoFA offers a musical theater class each school semester for grades 2-12, taught by a former Dollywood choreographer! Each semester culminates in an entertaining production for the students to demonstrate their talents and hard work. Be sure to check out this semester’s musical theater productions on December 5th (“Elf” by grades 7-12) and December 12th (“Annie” by grades 2-6), each at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall at FBCH.

New this year to FBCH SoFA are classes in art, drawing and worship leadership. Art and drawing classes are available for all ages from kindergarten through adult, with different curriculums designed for specific age ranges. The worship leadership class, taught by the FBCH Associate Worship Pastor, offers students in grades 8-12 the opportunity to explore music and the arts as they are utilized in the contemporary worship service.
