On the Saturday before the eclipse, thousands of visitors will be in Gallatin looking for an experience before the big event. On the sidewalks of downtown Gallatin, bluegrass musicians are encouraged to bring your group or join in with others to bluegrass standards. Children ages 7 (must be born in 2009) to 11 years old are invited to audition to perform in “Nashville’s Nutcracker: Celebrating 10 Years!” this December. This is the only opportunity the general public will have to perform on stage with Nashville Ballet and the Nashville Symphony this season. Open auditions will be held Sundays from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on August 20, August 27 and September 10 at Nashville Ballet. Interested attendees only need to attend one audition. No dance experience is required; performance training will be provided.
On Sunday, August 20th the Portland Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Farm to Table Dinner under the lights on Main Street catered by Carolyn Berry. Live music & appetizers will start at 7:00pm with dinner beginning at 7:30pm. The acoustic duo of Dean & Jerry will be providing entertainment at the event. The City of Goodlettsville and Goodlettsville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a kick-off party on Sunday evening before their eclipse party on Monday. The community is encouraged to come out for music and food trucks on the grounds of the Bowen House in Moss-Wright Park from 5-7pm. The “Get Eclipsed in Goodlettsville,” event on Monday, August 21 will also be held at Moss-Wright Park from 9am-4pm. Eclipse-goers will receive a free pair of protective glasses to view the Eclipse. To cool things off, the Goodlettsville Fire Department will be hosting “water wars” at 10:30am.
Millions of Americans will see the sight of a lifetime on August 21, 2017, when a rare total solar eclipse sweeps the nation from Oregon to South Carolina. Day turns to night for two minutes and the sky’s most beautiful spectacle, the Sun’s corona, reveals itself in grandeur. Gallatin, Tennessee, is right on that path for the longest duration of totality – approximately 2 minutes 40 seconds. Before their main event, The White House Area Chamber of Commerce and City of White House is hosting an Eclipse Movie night at the Soccer Complex. On August 20, they will be playing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Along with the movie, there will be costume contests, Jedi training, food and appearances by some special guests. The main event on August 21, Discover Totality, will feature live feeds from NASA, food trucks, live music and more at the Soccer Complex. Cheekwood is hosting a viewing party for the solar eclipse set to sweep the nation on Monday, August 21. The rare natural phenomenon is the first total solar eclipse to hit the U.S. in 99 years, with Nashville serving as the largest U.S. city in its path. Enjoy this once in a lifetime experience at one of Nashville’s most beautiful outdoor settings!
Typically closed to the public on Mondays, Cheekwood will open its doors from 11am – 4pm for the event, which will feature live music, food trucks, cash bars and protective eyewear for the viewing. The eclipse is set to occur at 1:25 p.m.
