Sumner Regional Medical Center Names Lifferth Chief Medical Officer

Veteran Emergency Room Physician to Lead as Hospital’s First CMO

Sumner Regional Medical Center (SRMC) announced today that Geoffrey Lifferth, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer at the hospital, effective January 8. The Chief Medical Officer position is a newly created, part-time role at Sumner Regional Medical Center, and is part of the administrative and operations team at the hospital.

“Dr. Lifferth will be focused on understanding and assisting us in meeting our Vision of making SRMC a place where physicians want to practice,” said CEO Susan Peach, RN, BSN, MBA. “He is going to spend time listening, observing and exchanging ideas with our medical staff members that will enhance medical practice and clinical effectiveness at SRMC. His commitment to patient care, physicians, our employees and the community is evident in all that he does, and I know that he will help us further advance our mission of Making Communities Healthier in this new role.”

A Madison, Tenn., native, Lifferth earned his bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, his doctor of medicine degree at University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Medicine, Memphis, Tenn., and completed a residency in emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass. While in Massachusetts, he trained at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Lifferth has been an emergency department physician on the medical staff of SRMC since 2005. He has served as the hospital’s chief of the medical staff for two years and also served as chair of the hospital’s Ethics Committee since 2013. He is board certified in emergency medicine.
